Research is a strong driving force within the University, underpinning teaching and learning, enhancing commercial developments and promoting the activities of academic staff. This is demonstrated by our success in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, the growth of our research income and doubling of our research active staff over the last five years. We are renowned too for the high quality of our teaching and learning and received the highest level of commendation for our academic standards and quality of learning opportunities in the most recent institutional audit by the Quality Assurance Agency.

About the University of Lincoln

Lincoln studentsThe University is based in a number of attractive and historic locations. The main campus is located in the centre of the city, on the picturesque Brayford Pool waterfront. New buildings have been created while old industrial buildings have been transformed into award-winning, modern, student-centred spaces. Over the last decade, more than £130 million has been invested in facilities and resources at the Brayford Pool campus, benefitting postgraduate study. This investment has resulted in high-quality facilities such as the £6 million Lincoln Performing Arts Centre (LPAC) which boasts a 450-seat theatre and three large studio spaces for performance and rehearsal for high-profile acts to student performances. There is also the award-winning Engine Shed - the Students' Union venue and Lincoln's largest multi-purpose site.

The city of Lincoln

Our main campus is set in the heart of one of the world's great small cities. Steeped in history and culture, Lincoln is a safe and friendly city with lively nightlife and varied cultural activities. Tourist attractions include the internationally renowned cathedral and castle. Lincoln's status as a modern and traditional city combined in one has allowed it to develop a rich variety of arts and cultural venues. There is the £12.5 million museum The Collection: Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire, the Usher Art Gallery, plus a number of other museums. If you are looking for live events and performances, the city houses the Theatre Royal, the Drill Hall and Bishop's Palace.

Sports and Leisure

Lincoln studentsIf your interest is more sporting, Lincoln can offer a wide range of activities; everything from archery, swimming and bowling to football, cricket and rowing. There are several leisure centres for working out, parks for walking or running, and plenty of cycle tracks to be found as well. The University meanwhile, has its own on-site Sports and Leisure Centre providing a range of facilities and plenty or sporting opportunities. These extensive facilities are among the best in the county.

Accommodation

The dedicated Residential Services team offers postgraduates a range of accommodation options including the university's safe, high-quality accommodation complex, Student Village, a university-approved development scheme within easy walking distance of the main campus. Off-campus private sector shared housing is also available.

International Students

Lincoln studentsThe University of Lincoln welcomes students from more than 50 countries worldwide to its diverse student community and inclusive learning environment. It has a well established support service that all international students can access while they are studying. The International Office works alongside all other departments at the university to offer a friendly and personal service which provides advice on areas such as choosing accommodation, scholarships, visas and English Language support.

In addition there is a Lincoln welcome and induction programme for all international students, which includes airport pickup, evening reception/welcome, a tour of the city and a talk and advice session from local services.
